Disassembly and Rewiring of a Mature Converging Excitatory Circuit Following Injury

چکیده

Specificity and timing of synapse disassembly in the CNS is essential to learning how individual circuits react neurodegeneration postsynaptic neuron. In sensory systems such as mammalian retina, synaptic connections second order neurons are known remodel reconnect face cell loss, but whether degenerating third can their local presynaptic connectivity unknown. We injured adult retinal ganglion cells by transiently elevating intraocular pressure. show that loss structures occurs before density proteins accounts for impaired transmission from neurons, despite no evidence axon terminal shrinkage, or reduced functional input. Loss synapses biased among converging neuron types, with preferential major excitatory cone-driven partner, increased rod-driven partners, demonstrating this neural circuit capable structural plasticity while undergoing neurodegeneration.

Altered sensory experience induces targeted rewiring of local excitatory connections in mature neocortex.

Experience-dependent plasticity in adulthood is slower than during development. Previous experience can accelerate adult cortical plasticity. However, the contributions of functional synaptic changes and modifications in neuronal structure to the acceleration of adult cortical plasticity remain unclear. If structural remodeling was important then it should be exhibited by neuronal connections t...

Single-neuron NMDA receptor phenotype influences neuronal rewiring and reintegration following traumatic injury.

Alterations in the activity of neural circuits are a common consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI), but the relationship between single-neuron properties and the aggregate network behavior is not well understood. We recently reported that the GluN2B-containing NMDA receptors (NMDARs) are key in mediating mechanical forces during TBI, and that TBI produces a complex change in the functional...

A Model for Cortical Rewiring Following Deafferentation and Focal Stroke

It is still unclear to what extent structural plasticity in terms of synaptic rewiring is the cause for cortical remapping after a lesion. Recent two-photon laser imaging studies demonstrate that synaptic rewiring is persistent in the adult brain and is dramatically increased following brain lesions or after a loss of sensory input (cortical deafferentation). We use a recurrent neural network m...

A Review of the Occurrence and Mechanisms of Induction of Osteoporosis Following Spinal Cord Injury

Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) causes devastating injuries in patients. The main mechanisms of the pathogenesis of secondary injury include nerve degeneration, gliosis, and inflammation. Spinal cord injury induces a disorder or failure in several organs due to the vital role of the spinal cord in regulating bodily functions. Osteoporosis is a consequence of spinal cord injury that occur...
